Klok, Klokwork Team Console/Connector updated

We posted multiple updates to several products today. See below for details on the updates.

Klok

  • Added full project path on mouse over entry in week view
  • Added validation for HTML invoice provider to prevent errors if you try to generate an invoice without first creating an invoice template or selecting a date range
  • Fixed Xero/Blinksale authorization panel display using light skins
Note: This is likely to be the last release of the invoicing beta. It will become part of the full version only very soon.

Klokwork Team Console

  • Added feature to roll up time entered on locally created subprojects up to the parent project. So if you published a project and a Klok user added a subproject locally, any time tracked against the subproject will be rollup into the parent
  • Fixed date parsing to prevent "negative time" issue.

Klokwork Team Connector

  • Fixed issue where items flagged as not able to have time tracked against them was still trackable when published to Klok

Klok 2.3.6 - Xero, Blinksale Freshbooks integration

Wow it has been a busy holiday season but now that we have been back in the swing of things for a couple weeks we have some major updates to announce.

Firstly, we just posted an update to Klok 2.3.6 which now includes a skin with a larger font size. You can access it from the Tools > Preferences > Appearance screen.

We are also happy to announce our new invoicing integration beta. This feature allows you to create an invoice for a project (and all child projects) for a given time period. Initially we are including the ability to generate an invoice as a file or submit to either Xero or Blinksale. For more information see our website. Please note, that while this feature is in beta, we are enabling it in the free and full versions, but once this beta feature will only be available in the free version until February 2012.

Also, we have posted a new beta connector for Freshbooks allowing you to mange your projects in Freshbooks and track you time in Klok.

As usual, if you have questions or suggestions let us know.

AIR for Desktop abandoned too?... Defnitely not

-- UPDATE 2 --
Mike Chambers has confirmed below that AIR for Desktop is here to stay! Thanks Mike.

-- UPDATE --

According to Adobe evangelist Renaun Erickson, AIR for desktop is not being dropped. See his comment at http://renaun.com/blog/2011/11/the-gaming-side-of-renaun/. While this is certainly good news for now, I think we are all left with some uncertainty about the future. I'm not ready to jump ship yet but I am not totally convinced either.

----------

With all the confusion and terrible communication from Adobe regarding Flash lately it is getting hard to weed out the truth from the rumors. However, one thing that is impossible to miss is the lack of mention of Adobe AIR for Windows/Mac. If you look at the recent posts from Adobe here and here you will notice no mention of it.

Now there are two possible reasons for this:
  1. This was an oversight and they are planning to continue to develop it or
  2. This was intentional and they are no longer planning to develop it
Option 1 seems very unlikely to me unfortunately. Given that Adobe has been under fire for the last week because of the terrible way they communicated things, I find it hard to believe that this was just overlooked. I have posted several comments, as have others, asking for comment with no response at all. So this leaves option 2. If Adobe plans to abandon Adobe AIR for desktop, then we as a developer community are basically screwed and left with the unfortunate task of porting our applications to other languages. This, of course, will unfortunately delay future releases and drive up the costs of our products... which ultimately hurts our customers as well.

While I respect the fact that Adobe needs to make very difficult business decisions, it certainly doesn't make me feel any better.

Adobe - this is your last chance to respond to the community on this before we make the switch to something else.

Lifehacker awards Adobe AIR app, Klok, "Best Time Tracking App for Windows and Mac"

We were very pleased to hear that Lifehacker.com awarded Klok the titles of "Best Time Tracking App for Mac OSX" and "Best Time Tracking App for Windows". Take a look and see what they had to say about it but nothing beats trying it out for yourself. Download the free version at www.getklok.com and let us know what you think.

Now we are not about to just sit back and coast, so we have been working on a new version of the Klokwork Team Console to make using Klok for a whole team much easier. Also on the horizon... updated mobile versions for Android, iOS and Blackberry Playbook with the ability to synchronize with the desktop version.
